Carabao Cup Final tickets: Why Liverpool and Newcastle only get 31k tickets

Liverpool and Newcastle will meet in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on the Sunday March 16, 2025.

That leaves a significant portion of the stadium’s capacity allocated elsewhere.

Both Newcastle and Liverpool fans will feel aggrieved by the allocation for Wembley Stadium, with both clubs receiving 31,000 tickets each.

This means that only two-thirds of Wembley will be filled with fans of the finalists, with the rest of the stadium set to be filled with "neutrals" from various corporations and governing parties.

Fans are now asking why such a huge allocation, around 30,000 tickets, is going to commercial partners for the EFL Cup Final.

We take a look at where the remaining tickets go for the Carabao Cup Final 2025:

1. Club Wembley (Corporate & Hospitality) – ~10,000 Tickets

Wembley has a Club Wembley section, which consists of corporate hospitality packages, VIP seating, and debenture holders who have pre-paid for access to multiple events at the stadium. Many of these are long-term commitments that aren’t allocated specifically for any single match.

2. EFL & FA Allocation – ~5,000-7,000 Tickets

The English Football League (EFL) and the Football Association (FA) take a share of tickets for their own members, sponsors, and partners. This includes FA-affiliated grassroots clubs, county associations, and football development programs.

3. Sponsors, Commercial Partners and TV Rights Holders – ~5,000-7,000 Tickets

Major tournament sponsors (e.g., Carabao, Sky Sports) are set to receive ticket allocations as part of their sponsorship deals. These often go to employees, clients, or promotional competitions.

4. Football Family & Neutral Allocation – ~4,000-5,000 Tickets

About 4,000 tickets for the EFL Cup Final are reserved for members of the wider footballing community, such as:

  • Former players
  • Referees
  • Representatives from other football clubs
  • Sporting personalities
  • Neutral fans or those who get tickets via general sales or ballots

5. Wembley Stadium Operations & Broadcast Partners – ~3,000 Tickets

A portion of EFL Cup Final tickets is reserved for staff, security, and broadcasters who work on the event.

Cup finals like the EFL Cup Final and the FA Cup Final are considered to be significant sporting spectacles that should be enjoyed by the wider football community, not just the fanbases of each finalist.

Whilst fans of Newcastle and Liverpool will disagree with the allocation decision, cup finals are huge occasions to rewards the efforts and hard work of the wider footballing community across all levels who contribute to the game.
